Choose the floor for the way the room will actually be used.
Tile selection is not only about choosing a colour from a catalogue. The room, foot traffic, maintenance expectations, finish, size and overall interior palette all affect whether a tile will continue to look right after the project is complete.
Start with the room
Glossy, matte or textured?
Glossy finishes can create a bright, polished appearance, while matte finishes often feel more understated and can be easier to live with in certain high-use spaces. Textured surfaces may be useful where additional grip or a specific visual character is required. The right choice depends on the room rather than a single finish being universally better.
Tile size changes the visual scale
Larger formats can create fewer grout lines and a more continuous appearance, but the room dimensions, substrate preparation, handling and installation plan should be considered. Smaller formats can be practical for specific layouts and detailed areas.
Think about the complete palette
Look at the tile together with wall colour, cabinetry, doors, furniture and natural light. A sample viewed alone in a showroom can feel very different once it covers an entire room.
Practical checklist before ordering
- Confirm the total floor area and allow for appropriate project wastage.
- Check batch/shade consistency before installation.
- Choose a finish appropriate for the room conditions.
- Think about grout colour and joint appearance.
- Keep a small quantity of matching tiles for future repairs where practical.
